		<abstract>This work describes a methodology automatically estimates left ventricular blood volume from echocardiographic images. Generally, this volume is estimated using one of several geometric approximations to the shape of left ventricular, such as prolate ellipsoid. The proposed method first pre-processes the echocardiographic image, automatically obtains the points belonging to the left ventricular contour and the linear dimensions necessary to compute the volume estimation based on the Simpson integration models. The methodology was applied to several real images presenting good results.</abstract>
